I personally say thank you to all the personnels of SEAMEO because I was able to conquer some of my fears and dislikes such as traveling alone in an unknown place. It did not only train me to be great teacher but it have also trained me to be a great individual who can stand on her own feet and not always rely on someone.

Though I cannot say directly, in my heart I will always pray for the succes of your activities and your future plans to students like us.

Good bye my students you made me stand as hard as rock.

See you then, I will never forget

See you then, I will never regret

See you then, I have learned a bucket

See you then, then let’s rock it.

Practice Teaching 5

My last for this period of time because I know we’re going to meet, someday.
My last day of teaching and learning with Primary 2 and I know it’s going to be so hard saying goodbye. That is why when Sir Mifta asked me to share my experiences in their school, I burst out into tears at the midst of my first sentence of thanking and I couldn’t stop it so I wasn’t able to continue.

I taught science for my last, about the ground. Using configuration clues and a list of jumbled answers, I let the class complete the paragraph I created for them. Next, I let them identify the pictures or images of the answer they’ve written so that they’ll know what those words or answers stands for.

The table, the stories, the benches, the place where we further got close.
The class is so active and would always want to be the one to answer. That is why I made sure that all of them were able to answer or take part in the discussion. I am very glad that I was able to make the class enjoy and learn something. Lastly, I have them made a graphic organizer wherein they are to write what is on the ground and some of their uses.

Day 26

Reaching Out

August 28, 2018

IMG-20180902-WA0004[1]  “We have to know more about you before we can love you,” a pretty lady said to me while I was asking for other questions.

Another day for a new activity, another day for another friend. Today me and my buddy Rosyela visited her department in UNESA. We met three classes wherein we shared our learning and experiences throughout the program. Starting from the used curriculum, the types of students and the way of teachings and other activities and programs happening inside the school that helps enrich the minds and skills of students. Aside from that we shared differences and similarities in our cultures, beliefs and traditions. Visiting aspiring students and sharing experiences, I hope I was able to impart something important that can motivate them or something that the y’ll be remembering as they go on with their endeavors.

Me and my buddy Rosyela visited three classes and I enjoyed every encounter because though we are there for one reason the different personalities each people have made the situation very different.

Day 25

Practice Teaching 4

August 27, 2018

Using a meter long paper, I continued my lesson about length.

In my observation on the first part, they haven’t got what is length and width, so for all class to see, I made one meter long paper that can be seen by all students instead of using a normal ruler. So that I’ll be able to continue what they’ve learned with a one on one consultation with me before, during our first lecture on the topic. Using measured pieces of papers which I measured in inches and centimeters I let the students measure using the long ruler I made which is posted on the board, hoping that with the repetition of cases, in watching their classmates measuring and their own try-outs they’ll be able to get it. In addition, I also concentrated on measurements which has an excess like 5.5 meters or 49.5 cm.

At the end of the lesson, most of the students were able to draw the house with its specific measurement.

Day 24

Memories on the Making

August 26, 2018

Relaxing, taking an adventure, repaying self from all the hard work done, it is just but necessary. It was such a great memory, having fun with everyone, seeing new heights and scenery, sharing strengths and weaknesses, who will forget such a thing. No, not me.

Together with teacher interns at UNESA we climbed the mountain together, rode the small jeep and shared foods, We first visited Mt. Bromo which reached 8 degrees Celsius at the moment when we climbed, it is really cold and we using the lights from our phone while going up to get a good post to view the sun coming out through the mountains. Then we rode forward to Bukit Teletubbies where beautiful grasses are found at the foot of the mountain. Next,  we rode off to the Whistling Sound, where the ground is purely made out of gray sand and is surrounded by mountains.  After which, we dared to climb the 2 km volcano, that will make your tired body from climbing very worth it. Lastly. before going home, we enjoyed a home cooked lunch, which is really fulfilling. For a day adventure, it is worth a month.

Someday, I will have to go back to this place and visit it once again, it is such a nice place and the nature is really great.

Day 23

End-of-the-Week Report

August 19-25, 2018

Seems like I just got here yesterday and I just realized it is already my 3rd week in Surabaya. Time really flies so fast and now I have a mixed feeling of wanting to go back and not wanting to go back.

The place I’ve been going to, the people I am always with and people I have just met, I got a feeling that it’ll be very hard for me to leave them. So with my remaining time, I am going to give my all and do and enjoy the things that will come, though it is making me sad that the time I’m going to leave is nearing, I would want to part ways with a smile of satisfaction on our faces.

Third  Week

Teaching Practice 3

August 24, 2018

Group work is one of the strategies to make the students get involved. It is said that it will help the children learn to socialize and respect one another’s decision.

Observing what happens when oil is mixed with water.
Today I’ll be teaching the subject Science with the subject matter Water and things that can be mixed and not mixed with it. I recycled four water bottles buy removing its upper part, this will be used for the mixture. Next I looked for an oil, juice, pebbles and salt. Lastly, I fixed my Pocket Chart and printed materials.

The Pocket Chart on the move!!!

The students enjoyed the experiment we did, but I am really not still prepared, I haven’t thought of other possible factors that might happen. Seems like I haven’t observed enough because I wasn’t able to determine the way they learn. I did not consider the thought that they always use their books when learning and everything is written in their like guide questions and key points. My mistake for today is that, I haven’t thought of writing down guide questions for the students because of my certain expectations that they’ll be able to go with the discussion easily. I remembered that they’re still in Primary 2 and haven’t yet gone out that far. Good thing there are synonyms and antonyms of certain words that helped me simplify things for them.

IMG-20180824-WA0002[1]
Pouring it all out.
In addition, though group work is a lot of fun when learning but when dealing with young children it is so hard to get their attention once they talk about things, though it is related to the things we are doing at the moment they have made another world for them and don’t listen to their classmates talking in front anymore. So what I did is to ask them questions related to the answers of the students reporting in front and then at least their attention somewhat shifted back to the class.

Day 21

Teaching Practice 2

August 23, 2018

I am not happy and I am not so satisfied with my performance today. Though my mentor said I did well and was able to apply Higher Order Thinking Skills which made me glad but it wasn’t enough to ease what I’ve felt.

First, I forgot all about time management, I did wrote my plan step by step but I forgot to add the time, of how many minutes each step should be done, so I wasn’t able to give them an evaluation. It is a chaos, I felt that I did not do very well and I felt really bad despite my preparation. Second, I wasn’t able to secure enough materials for my students like the board marker, so it is kind of distracting getting one marker from a pair then write something on the board then returning it to them.

So tomorrow, I’m going to do my best, especially with my time management. Because it is so dreadful feeling this undesirable emotions at all.

Day 20

Where a Teacher’s Life Revolves

August 22, 2018

Instructional Materials is life and lesson plan is life. For teachers one must never get tired in making this holy things because it is our weapon and our shield when we are in the battlefield or in the classroom.

IMG_20180822_152218
Show-Me-Board at front

Today I finalized my Show-Me-Board and 5 pieces papers in different sizes measured in inches and centimeters duplicated 8 times.  This materials alongside with a ruler that will be given with each pair wherein we’ll use it during application. So I measured, I cut, designed and taped and then do it all over again. Why do I do this, when I can just use the books anyway? Well, thinking back during out third year or just last school year, all of us were pushed to our limits and I wouldn’t want that to go to waste when I can still do it. I also finalized my plan for tomorrow’s teaching by writing the step by step plan so that my mind will be refreshed of what should be done.

IMG_20180822_152318
Show-Me-Board at back

I just hope that things will go well tomorrow, wherein I’ll be able to impart something that students will remember and live it through their life. It might sound so big bit it is a wish I’ve always thought of whenever I think of teaching my own class.
